SSTC III. - Solid State Tesla Coil with 50Hz / 100Hz / DC operation
SSTC III. is another modification of previous SSTCs. I used secondary from ISSTC. Big "toroid" (torus made of cans).
decreases the resonance frequency down to 222kHz. The binding is loose, the primary is just the beginning 1 cm above the secondary.
After reducing the number of turns on primary to 6turns the spark length is 18cm, arcs to grounded objects 25cm.
Further reductions in the number of turns (5 or 4) does not extend the sparks, only makes MOSFETs more hot.
I added switches for 50Hz / 100Hz / DC operation selection to this SSTC. Input power is 200W at 50Hz, 400W at 100Hz and almost 700W with DC
operation. DC operation gives shorter discharges due to the isolating transformer overload. The isolation transformer is not necessary, you can
operate it without it.
I tried to attach a long spring to the toroid, which starts to swing or rotate when the tesla coil is operated.
WARNING !!! Tesla coil is extremely dangerous device!
Without knowledge of the principles of working with high voltage, you should not construct it.
Tesla coil is causing a broadband radio frequency interference. Electromagnetic radiation
can damage electronic devices or storage media. During the operation it produces ozone (O3) and other toxic
gases, must be ventilated! Everything you do at your own risk! For any injury I do not take any responsibility.
